best albums of 08

1. The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound

two solid albums in tow years. best band of the year. got to see them at two very small and intimate shows. they've blown up since then and it probably will never be the same.

2. Seasick - Ouroboros

very short, but very intense. this band wasn't the first hardcore band i listened to, but this was the year i got very into hardcore and they were the band i latched onto strongest. this album (and also Awakenings a little bit too) changed the way i viewed hardcore all togethor.

3. The Max Levine Ensemble - OK Smartypants

sort of came out of nowhere. had never heard of this band but all of a sudden everyone was talking about them. album is flawless. perfect pop punk. had to travel to d.c. to see them live, but it was so very worth it.

4. Emilyn Brodsky - Emilyn Brodskys Greatest Tits

so glad to see this finally come out. a solid album from a person who has been nothing but nice to me. each track transfered so nicely to full band. it was especially nice to have studio takes of all these songs where the lyrics were finally audible.

5. Off With Their Heads - From The Bottom

took a little longer for this to grow on me at first, but in the end this, along with everything else this band has ever recorded was excellent. seeing them at disgraceland made this album all the better. front flips during terrorist attack? can really change your opinion on a song.

6. Static Radio - An Evening Of Bad Decisions

another album that i had waited on it's release for a long time. did not disappoint. not much else to say, great album from local guys who are the nicest ever.

7. Spoonboy - I Love You, This Is A Robbery

i don't know what to say here. i booked a show for david before i had ever listened to his solo stuff. and it was very worth it. since listening to this album i've seen david perform almost 6 times, and he lives five states away. not a bad song on this album. can't wait for the new e.p.

8. The Measure [sa] - Songs About People.... And Fruit 'N Shit

another album i wanted to come out so badly. since mike erg joined the band they got nothing but better. these songs are flawless. fast, catchy and energetic. i absolutely love this and. they also put out some of the best 7 inches of the year.

9. Nana Grizol -Love It Love It

this album came out of nowhere. in the dust of a pretty disappointing defiance ohio album, this came out. a bigger band full of horns and strings and hopeful lyrics. got it right at the start of the summer and it did nothing but supply me with a soundtrack for fun.

10. Dustheads - Little Pieces

short and sweet. feel down album of the year. don't even have a digital copy of this album, only vinyl. listen to it non stop though.

11. The Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride

came out in the beginning of the year. has some absolutely amazing songs, but still some that i have not yet grown to love. but it's the mountain goats and to say my year has been anything but obsessed with them would be a lie. this album along with his collaboration with kahki king show how he will not run out of original songs any time soon.
